Welcome back to the Disney Magical Mindset Podcast, where we take the magic of Disney and use it to unlock the magic inside you. I’m Ruben, your Disney magic mentor, and if you’re a Disney fan who loves the parks, the movies and the inspiration behind it all, then you’re in the right place. Because here’s the truth the magic of Disney isn’t just in the parks as much as I would love to be there right now, and I know you would too but the magic it’s in you and I’m going to keep saying it until it resonates and lodges deep in your heart. The magic we love from Disney or a Disney park or an animated film. The magic is in you. So let’s unlock it together as we dive under the sea with a little mermaid named Ariel, with a little mermaid named Ariel.
Do you remember where you were when you first watched the Little Mermaid back in 1989? We taking it back. That’s a long time ago. Some of you weren’t even born yet back in 1989. Let’s see 1989, I was nine years old, that’s right. So now I’m in my 40s what’s up? Living my best disney adult life.
There’s one iconic scene well, actually there’s many, but but this scene is something that is so meaningful, it’s so moving to me today. Now, I didn’t realize it back then, you know, because back when you’re a kid, you’re just enamored with being under the sea and singing and seeing Ariel and go from being a little mermaid to part of your world. You know. Like that I mean, it’s just the best. And there in her secret cavern, surrounded by treasures she’s collected, is one of the most powerful life application lessons that you will ever find in a Disney movie. There Ariel sings about who’s it’s and what’s it’s galore and even more thingamabobs. But she’s still longing for something more, like you and me. Right, we all long for something more, and for her it was to be part of another world. Now think about your own mind. We’re going to dive deep into the inner magic. I’m so pumped for this because your thoughts are like the treasures in Ariel’s cavern. Your thoughts. They’re so powerful and some are valuable, like memories, dreams, beliefs that empower you.
But let’s be real. Some of the things we collect in our minds aren’t really treasures at all. They’re things like anxiety and fear, self-doubt, things like we’re not good enough or we’re never going to make it, or we’re always thinking about the worst possible outcome. These toxic thoughts are like junk, taking up space in our cavern, in our minds, crowding out the good stuff. This is why you can have 10 people tell you positive things about you, like give you a compliment throughout the day, 10 different people, and then all it takes is one person to share something negative about you, right, something that makes you feel bad. And guess what it does to all the positive things that people said about you? It wipes them out, like.
This is the power of the mind, the power of your cavern. This is what happens when you allow those toxic, negative thoughts to have residence in your cavern. And I’m telling you, you have the power to collect the positive, good stuff, but you also have the power to collect the negative, toxic stuff, and this is what we have to break. This is the world that we’re talking about, like being part of your world, the world where I’m storing up the positive, good, happy, like uplifting thoughts in my cavern. That’s what I want in my world. You know right, this is exactly the power of the mind. Remember, you are always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts. Worrying and toxic thinking will change your brain and move your life in a direction you don’t want to go. Your brain works on what it’s told, because you’re always moving in the direction of your strongest thoughts. Don’t ever forget this. Remember where your mind goes, of your strongest thoughts. Don’t ever forget this. Remember where your mind goes, your life follows. What you feed your mind with becomes a mindset, and a mindset is impossible to change without changing what your mind is filled with. That’s the cavern. You can fill it with positivity or you can fill it with negativity.
I learned something so powerful from a clinical neuroscientist, dr Caroline Leaf, and here’s what she said Our thoughts, imaginations and choices can change the structure and function of our brains on every level Molecular, genetic, epigenetic, cellular, structural, neurochemical and electromagnetic, and even subatomic. Now please don’t ask me what that means, but here it is in a nutshell Through our thoughts, we can be our own brain surgeons as we make choices that change the circuits in our brain. Do you hear me? You didn’t even know you were a brain surgeon.
But the things that we say to ourselves, the things that we allow into our cavern, are continually creating circuits in our brains that determine the directions we go right, that allow us to go for the things that we believe we can do or not do. This is the power of the things that you are telling yourself, of the things that you are allowing into the cavern. And I just want to encourage you, inspire you and motivate you today that from this day forward, we are going to be intentional of what we allow into our cavern. So much of your success depends on how you think of you, not how others think of you. And sometimes we play such a high premium on what others think of us or what others say about us that we allow those things to take residence in our cavern when we have the power to disrupt that, to dismiss it, to let it go, because we’re not going to allow those things that other people place upon us to live inside our cavern. We can’t do it. We can’t live for the applause of other people. We can’t live for the likes of other people. We can’t live thinking that we have to impress other people. Because if we live like that, guess what? Those very same people who you try to do those things to will be the very ones who will tell you things about you that will hurt you, that will make you feel bad, that you will allow into that cavern.
Woo, it’s getting hot in here. All right, woo, I need to. All right, just calm down. I can’t calm down. I mean, this is too good. I just because I want you to thrive, I want you to succeed, I want you to believe that your mind has the ability to capture those rogue thoughts and send them away and actually allow the good thoughts, the lovely thoughts, the nice, kind, generous, awesome thoughts to live in your life Cavern. How many times have you thought something into existence that’s not even true, my goodness? Like how many times really have you said something about yourself that’s not even true? Have you put something out there into the universe that’s not even true? You know, we sometimes make ourselves sick believing in something that’s not even true about ourselves. Or we envision something about tomorrow that hasn’t even happened. We make something bigger than it really is. We don’t go after that dream because we don’t believe we can do it. And this is the power of the mind. You already set yourself up for failure without even giving yourself a chance. And this is where we have to switch it. We have to pivot, we have to reframe the focus, because whatever you magnify is going to become your focus.
This week we took our daughter to get her ears pierced. This is her first time ever, so you can imagine the fear, the anxiety, the worry, the unknown and just being scared, something that she had never done before. And, I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous as well. But when it was over with she was like laughing and smiling and you could just tell that there was another level of courage that she experienced that day and I encouraged her in the morning. I said sweetheart, this is the power of the mind If you think you can, you can, but if you think you can’t, you can’t. And that day I hope that she learned a lesson that she’ll never forget that what you put in the cavern becomes part of your world.
What’s it going to be? You have the power to choose what stays in your cavern. Just because a thought pops up doesn’t mean it deserves to be collected. When negative thoughts try to invade whether that’s worry, fear, comparison, feelings like you can’t do it right, things that you’re making bigger than they really are all that toxic, negative stuff. Here’s what we’re going to do. I want to give you three things that you and me are going to implement in our lives so we can be proud and happy and content with the cavern that is part of our world. With the things that we’re putting in our caverns, that is becoming part of our world. You ready? Here we go.
Now let me ask you what thoughts have you been storing that you need to let go of? What’s been holding you back from stepping into your magic? What are you allowing into your cavern that is not true about you? Or what have you stopped doing because you didn’t feel good enough? You gave up because someone told you you couldn’t do it? Here’s what we’re going to do.
The first thing, the first thing you’re going to do when a negative, toxic thought tries to invade your space and enter into the cavern, remember you don’t have to let it go in there. You get to capture what you collect, right? You have the power to choose whether you’re going to allow that thing into your cavern or not, just like Ariel, she was able to choose what she wanted into her cavern. And here’s what you and me are going to do. The first thing we’re going to do, before anything goes into the cavern, is we’re going to capture it. We’re going to capture that thingamabob. When you objectively observe your own thinking with the view to capture rogue thoughts, you in effect direct your attention to stop the negative impact and rewire healthy, new circuits into your brain. Remember, you are the brain surgeon, so you and me can capture that thought before it goes anywhere.
And this is the first thing we have to do when those chaotic and negative thoughts of anxiety, worry and fear try to invade your cavern. Here’s what you’re going to do Capture them, but don’t collect them. Do you hear me? All right, you’re with Ariel, you’re in the cavern and she’s showing you her treasures and collection her thingamabobs and you’ve got some as well and then there comes that thought of anxiety, there comes that thought that you’re not good enough, there comes that thought of worry and fear. And here’s the first thing we’re going to do, you and me we’re going to capture it. That’s it. We’re going to capture it. We’re not letting it go anywhere, we’re just capturing it.
I need you to visualize yourself Capturing that negative thought. Go ahead, go for it, do it right now, capture it. Boom, all right, you got it. You got it. All right. Here we go. We’re going to the second thing we got to do. Now we’re going to number two, the second thing, okay.
So, after you’ve captured it, the second thing we’re going to do, the second thing you’re going to do is you’re going to cancel it. Real simple, in other words, you’re not going to collect it. I’m not collecting this negativity. I’m not collecting this negative thought. I’m not collecting worry, anxiety, fear. I’m not collecting it.
Ariel, thank you for showing me what you got, girl. I appreciate you, but here’s this thing that wants to come into the cavern. I’m sorry, I’m not going to collect it. I don’t even want you to have it. I’m just going to toss it. I’m going to let it go into the sea. I’m not even going to take it, right, I’m not going to collect it.
Remember, please hear me, I want you to get this. I want to encourage you, I want to encourage myself. You don’t have to collect that negative thought. Remember, you captured it. Okay, now that you’ve captured it, now you let it go. You’re canceling it. I want you to do do this exercise a number of times until you start letting go and not collecting those thoughts, negative thoughts, into your cavern. Yeah, I’m unavailable for worries right now. I’m unavailable for something that hasn’t even happened. I’m not going to entertain any type of negative thoughts that I place upon myself or that others place on me. I don’t have time to waste my energy on things that I don’t even want to be part of my world. Remember, you get to choose what’s part of your world. You get to choose what you put into the cavern.
Okay, so, after you’ve captured that toxic, negative, worrisome, anxious thought, you’ve captured it, you have it, you let it go. Right, you didn’t collect it, you cancel it. You’ve done those first two steps. The third thing you’re going to do is you’re actually going to correct that collection. All right, you’re going to correct the collection, correct your thoughts. What if it all works out? I don’t have time to doubt.
Today, I’m going to believe that I can do what I set out to do. Right, all those things in my mind want to tell me I can’t do it, want to tell me to give up, want to tell me to let go. But I’m going to remember I captured it. I didn’t collect those thoughts, but now I’m going to correct it. No, I am going to accomplish this. I will make it to the finish line. I will achieve my goals and my dreams.
I’m telling you this has helped me so much because there were so many times inside of me when I didn’t want to do this podcast. There were so many times when I was ready to let go of my Instagram account, when I was like I can’t do this anymore, all those toxic, negative thoughts that were just, you know, plaguing my cavern right, that were in there, sitting in there, and because it’s so easy to be consumed by what others are doing and compare yourself, and then you start thinking, well, they did it, but I can’t. You know what I mean you start, you start comparing yourself to someone else where they are 10 years ahead of you and you think that you’re supposed to be there. And so you start having all these negative thoughts and worry and fears and anxiety. And that’s when you have to capture it and say, no, I’m not going to allow that, I’m not collecting it, I’m capturing it, I’m not collecting it, but now I’m going to correct it. Yeah, those voices that want to invade my cavern and tell me it’s not going to be a good day. No, it will be a good day.
The time when everyone laughed at Walt on that what they call Black Sunday, when it was horrible at Disneyland, everyone told him it was over with All the papers came out and said, man, this is a joke. And that time, you know, walt, he could have listened to all of it. He could have captured that and allowed it into his cavern. But you know what he did. You know what he did. He actually captured it, he canceled it and he corrected it. He said no, it will work out, it will be an awesome experience. We will get better from this. It will turn out great. And look at Disneyland and all the Disney parks now.
Man, I am so tired of listening to the negative, false voices, whether they’re in my head or the ones that are external, because of people who will say things about me. Man, it is time that we refuse to allow those negative, toxic thoughts to stay in our cavern. Today’s the day that it ends. I’m done with it. You know why? Because you’re too valuable and important to allow those false narratives to be part of your story and your life. You have too much to offer in this world to allow those thoughts of others’ opinion over you to determine and dictate how you’re going to live your life.
We refuse to allow those negative things to enter our cavern because here’s what we’re going to do, it’s what we’ve been saying. Please don’t forget whenever there’s a negative thought that is trying to enter your cavern. Remember, you don’t have to allow anything in there that you don’t want. Because here’s what we’re going to do, you and me together. You ready, we’re going to capture that thought. We’re going to then cancel. We’re not going to collect the negative thought, we’re not going to take it and put it into our cavern, but here’s what we’re going to do we’re going to correct the thought. It will work out, you will make it, you will thrive, you will win, you will get to the finish line. You will accomplish your goals and your dreams.
Those days of not believing in yourself and listening to the lies that aren’t even true are over. All right, man, this pumped me up today. It got me fired up. So here’s my challenge for you this week Take a moment to check in with your thoughts. What’s been living rent-free in your mind that needs to go, and what’s something you’ve been waiting to do that you need to start believing in yourself? For if this message spoke to you today, please share this episode with a fellow disney friend who needs a little inspiration. I would love for you to leave a review so we can continue to share the magic with others. And don’t forget to hit that follow button. I’ll be diving deeper into unlocking your inner magic every week. Until next time, keep dreaming, keep believing and remember you are the magic, because the magic is in you.
